Moser Presents 150th Anniversary Collection

At Spring New York Tabletop Market

—Works of Art Exemplify Timeless Design and Extraordinary Craftsmanship—

STERLING, VA, April 21, 2007…Moser will celebrate its 150th anniversary during the New York Tabletop Market, April 21-25.  The illustrious Czech crystal company has created an unprecedented collection of historical replicas and contemporary art pieces, many of which are limited editions, which will be on display in a gallery-like setting at the New York showroom.

“Moser has assembled an extraordinary collection to commemorate this important occasion.  Many of these unique pieces are historical replicas from the years 1882 to 1944 chosen by Moser to demonstrate a range of shapes, decorations and colors.  Each one is distinctive and showcases Moser’s talent and outstanding craftsmanship,” commented Maureen Ellis, director of marketing for Moser in the U.S.  “Several contemporary designs have also been created by prominent Czech glass artists to celebrate the occasion.  These pieces are an integral part of the collection and illustrate the fact that Moser is always looking to the future while incorporating historical glass making techniques.”

The Amphora Vase (10-inches high) is a historical replica of a hand painted vase designed in 1882.  An all-over luxurious design has embossed paintings of birds created with a technique patented by Moser founder Ludwig Moser in 1878 using opaque enamel paints and gold.  Oak sprigs with leaves are outlined in gold and are hand painted in five brilliant colors complemented by gilded acorns.  This type of work is credited with contributing to Moser receiving the royal patronage of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in March 1878.  The museum-quality topaz vase has gilded handles, rim and foot.  Limited to an edition of 50, the Amphora Vase is suggested to retail for $16,800.

A striking Poppy Vase (14-inches high) illustrates engraving, cutting and underlay glass techniques which were popular in the Art Nouveau period, and patented in 1905.   Partially polished engraved poppies surround a cut and engraved red poppy in the center comprised of two-color cased glass pieces.  Incised tulips and poppies around the rim create a three-dimensional design.  Aurora, clear and rose colors combine to create

crystal magic.  The original is on display at the Passau Glass Museum in Germany where the largest exhibition of Bohemian glass in the world is housed.  Limited to an edition of 150, the Poppy Vase is suggested to retail for $9,000.

World renowned Czech artist René Roubicèk created the spectacular Mirage Vase (11.8-inches high) for Moser’s anniversary.  Hand-cut prisms in alexandrite and clear are positioned in relation to each other to create a thrilling interplay of light.  Remarking on his creation, Mr. Roubicèk commented, “Moser—it is a jewel of luxury glass production—which implies the necessity to create a work of art, an object characterizing this fact.  It should be a gem in itself, an object fully displaying all Moser’s qualities: purity of glass, perfect luster and fascinating colors, all embodied in one object.”  Limited to an edition of 150, the Mirage Vase is suggested to retail for $8,400.

Prominent contemporary designer Jiri Suhájek who started his career at Moser created three dynamic pieces for the collection.   He designed the Lotus Blossom Vase (11.8-inches high) and Lotus Blossom Bowl (12-inches wide, 5-inches high) with intricately cut petals that reach towards the sky in aquamarine and clear colors   Each Lotus Blossom piece has a series of flat panels that create an interesting optical play of light on the crystal.  Limited to an edition of 150 each, the Lotus Blossom Vase is suggested to retail for $5,850; the Lotus Blossom Bowl is suggested to retail for $3,600.

The third design by Mr. Suhájeck is the exciting Wheels Vase (12.4-inches high) which comes in three colorways: aquamarine with beryl, alexandrite with rosalin and beryl with topaz.  This bold design is an exhilarating example of Moser’s hand cutting techniques with a vertical rectangular shape encased within a wheel shape to create an illusion of movement.  Each colorway is available in an edition of 50, and suggested to retail for $7,500.

Examples of Mr. Suhájeck’s work are at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England; The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York; the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in Sapporo, Japan; the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague; and other public and private collections.

Designers Ingrid Racková and David Suchopárek created a modern crystal sculpture that is extraordinarily innovative in every aspect.   The Deluxe Vase (32-inches high) is masterfully cut and consists of colored vases and massive blocks.  Reminiscent of a rainbow, the colors range from cool beryl and ocean green at the base to alexandrite and aquamarine in the center with rosalin and eldor at the top.  The astonishing composition displays a harmony of shapes and colors that showcase Moser’s hand cutting talents.  The Deluxe Vase is available in an edition of 50, and is suggested to retail for $10,500.

Each limited edition piece in the collection will bear the 150th anniversary logo, the limited edition number, and come with a certificate of origin.

A selection of unlimited edition pieces in the collection includes the beautiful Victoria Vases (9.8-inches high) which were created by Martina Kosinová and Alex Kosina.  Inspired by 18th-century Japanese graphic art, the three motifs include a “Crane on Pine,” “Crane by Sunset” and “Crane on Cliff.”  Kosinová and Kosina used a combination of engraving and artistic layered sandblasting to preserve the lightness of the art.  The crane motif was popular in both Chinese and Japanese painting and graphic art since it was the symbol of long life and good health.  Suggested retail price is $1,375 each.

The above pieces are merely the “tip of the iceberg” since the 150th Anniversary Collection consists of more than one hundred pieces.  In addition to the pieces mentioned above and others not described, exquisite stemware, barware and figurines are included in the collection.  The 23-piece collection shown at the showroom will be available to retailers during the April Tabletop Market after which it will travel to Hoagland’s of Greenwich in Greenwich, Connecticut for a special show.  After that, select pieces from the collection will appear in the Moser showroom at the July Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market.

All of the anniversary pieces may be special ordered, a process that takes six to eight months to receive, but one that assures the buyer an exceptional piece of crystal art.

Founded in 1857, Moser celebrates 150 years of superior artistic and technical standards in lead-free crystal.   The quality of the crystal and perfection of Moser’s hand cutting, engraving, gilding and brilliant colors are unsurpassed by any contemporary glass or crystal company in the world.

Founder Ludwig Moser, an engraver and painter, led his glassworks to establish an early international reputation for quality engraving on glassware, a recognition that encouraged him to commence production of his own glassware in 1893.  Under his stewardship and later his sons, Moser received awards and recognition practically every year at international exhibitions in Europe and the U.S.  Soon Moser became the proud possession of royalty, heads of state and well-known personalities throughout the world, an esteemed reputation that has held fast and continues to grow in the 21st century.  The glassworks survived two world wars, operated as an independent operation under the communist government, and eventually transitioned into a free market operation.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Moser developed its now famous technically perfect crystal production, employing a unique formula for producing a

substance as hard as rock and as brilliant as lead crystal – but without using a trace of lead.  This composition is suitable for Moser’s marvelous engravings, and is ecologically sound and remains free of all concerns associated with lead.
